...it is indeed a horse. the smaller one is around 34mm and the larger just over 50mm. Looking at them after the print they are a little squat but that just bad modelling ( i'll blame the perspective view!) I think theres more detail than you can see in the photo but details like the mane and the tail have come out a little blobby on the smaller of the two pieces.

...its like a monkey but different...

And here is the bigger one, this one is nearer 8cms. The Detailing on the print lends itself more to this scale, at least when it comes to my modelling skills. Print lines are more visible on this size whether or not this comes through in a cast remains to be seen.

..is it small or very far away.?

Well the 28mm print finally turned up. its actually a wee bit bigger than expected, nearer 31mm but still a good reference point for what i'm trying to achieve.The larger scale model was an innevitable cost and so I decided to go ahead with it. Apparently the need to optimize mesh for so I could upload the model had some diverse effects on certain areas on the sculpt. We'll have to wait and see......

With some more refinenment to the model, it was getting to the stage where a 3dprinting company was needed.

After much searching, a few unresponsive mails and general summing up I decided on a company based in the States for my maiden run. My first print would be around 28mm (wargames scale) my first "wee-man"

And here it is, still some refining but this will be my first attempt. Hopefully the printing process won't be too painful or expensive.

I decided to go slightly simple in the design as I'm expecting to lose some of the detail. My main worry will be the face and eyes as they may be lost.

Areas such as the club,gun and the straps haven't been touched again to see how the printing holds up.

Fingers crossed.

Started to refine the detail of the figure, With the understanding that a alot of the detail may not come through in the print. At this stage it would all be guesswork. When it came to creases and folds I had to guess how far to go, this is trickier than it sounds( at least to me) not just for the figure to look good at scale but these bumps and lump would help define where the painter would put their paint...and if there were no peaks then the figure could look too flat and liflefess.(picture to follow)

This also was a good excuse to go back and watch the movies,

Although decided to go with this pose for my test, I have started creating others for the eventual set, including a mounted figure.

My initial thoughts will be to create these figures to war game scale, which is around 28mm to the eyes but I will look into creating a larger scale which could be anything from 45mm to 80mm.

Decided to do the posing (to a degree) in MAX, the main reason for is,is that i'm more familiar with the package.I could do a neutral pose and pose further down the line but as yet not managed to get comfortable with it...but i'm sure that day will come. The main task here is to get a 3d print back so I can gauge its potential and whether my modelling need refining...which it probably will.

First quick draft of my eventual print, very little planning was put into any of this as I wanted to fail, and learn from these as I progressed. Hopefully this will help any further creations I may attempt.

Start of a new project( actually started a while back but only now has it advanced too any degree)

After a fair few years of creating assets for the virtual world, decided to see if anything that I've learned after the last few years has any use in the "real" world

And hopefully pick up some knowledge along the way.
